    What's up with the name?

Gneiss (pronounced "nice") is a type of metamorphic rock that can be found throughout places like Clear Creek Canyon and the Black Canyon. Less common than other rock types popular for climbing, like granite and sandstone, it's formed under intense heat and pressure and its variable composition can make for adventurous climbs.
